We have been passionate in this sector for a long time and over time have been lucky to get to know a number of businesses extremely well. That has let us hear what they need and how they want to receive their legal support. That let us design and structure the firm and how it does business in the clients' interests.
sector specialists who understand your business
Cleantech Cadre, as the name suggests, was founded with a unique iron focus on the growing cleantech sector, to serve the legal and policy needs of organisations involved in improving sustainability performance, manage operational risks and environmental liabilities and deliver sustainable solutions.
innovative lawyers who love solving problems
We love solving problems for our clients and have created a number of novel project structures that have been approved by the energy and environmental regulators and satisfied insurers and investors. Some of our clients have joked that we should be developers rather than advisors.
well connected networkers who know who to bring in and when
Nimble and flexible, we are the law firm our clients want to work with.
We are always looking for ways to get involved in the business side, introducing investors or JV partners, finding targets for acquisitions, linking management teams together or stress testing an emerging business case for a start-up.
Well networked, we spend a good amount of time creating connections between clients and contacts to generate new business for them. We love helping our clients and friends deliver. It’s a bonus when that sometimes generates work for us.
trusted and independently minded advisors
Cleantech Cadres is an independent boutique.
Our independence means we are well placed to provide expert opinions and specialist representation with environmental, planning, health & safety and energy regulators. We are well known to and respected by the regulators.
We can assist companies, directors or employees who have been, or believe they may be, subject to regulatory including criminal investigation by the environmental, health & safety or energy regulators. Or who wish to investigate compliance within their organisations or targets.
We also work with law firms who cannot offer specialist representation in our areas of subject matter expertise.
When we do so we guarantee that, in particular because of our boutique nature, we would not try to push in on and take over a client relationship.
outside in-house counsel – fully integrated
Our specialist lawyers provide outside in-house counsel support for clients on a contracted retainer basis or ad hoc as the needs of a particular transaction or project demands.
This fosters collaboration and better integrates us with your team. We are happy to be embedded at a project site or client office rather than from a distant office. This way, we function even more as part of your internal team.
collaborative by nature
On complex assignments we work with other disciplines on meaningful collaborations – we are happy to be led by engineers or environmental consultants. In addition to our own resources we regularly work with a range of affiliates including counsel and QCs, other specialist solicitors and technical experts.
We know just when the time is right to bring in the right specialists to deliver the most efficient result for our clients. We maintain a roster of specialist allies internationally who advise on linked areas of policy, or technical and commercial aspects of the issues we grapple with. This team slots together in an egoless manner, working with the clients' existing resources.
driven, passionate and impatient
Many of our clients are totally passionate about this sector and their businesses. So are we. That’s why we get on and do business.
That is probably why we have been privileged that many of our clients have come to us based on personal recommendations from other clients, and as senior business leaders have moved to join or set up a new businesses, they have instructed us again.
Cleantech Cadres is unique: we seek to be aligned with our major clients at all times and avoid taking on matters for other clients that could challenge that alignment. We are not going to represent aggressive fracking businesses, for example, or those illegally disposing of hazardous waste.
We also try to follow our clients and the activities they are involved with, wherever they may be. Even if other firms are instructed on certain aspects we are happy to continue to provide overall strategic direction and ensure full compliance in our specialist areas.
